Hello, my name is Mark Burnett and I am the admin of Minecraft Club. My username is MCMarkie and if you see me on the server, feel free to come and say hello.

I began working with children 5 years ago when I started teaching Code Club in my daughters primary school to year 5 and 6 pupils. I did this as part of being a STEM Ambassador to teach young minds the importance of coding and learning in a digital environment.

When COVID arrived, my teaching in schools ended, and for while I was wondering how I could continue to help and develop young minds once more. I started teaching coding again through an online school for home education students, and the opportunity arose to run a Minecraft Club. The problem was I’d never played Minecraft before and my only experience with the game had been trying to get it to work for my daughter.

I took on the opportunity and over the next 18 months developed a server which children would come and play on each week, making friends and having somewhere they knew, and their parent knew, was safe to play.

Now I want to make a server that is available to all children in the UK. Somewhere that is safe and fun, that allows all children to be able to make new friends and to have the ability to socialise with and learn from a larger group of peers.

Of course there was a lot to learn when I started, and many mistakes were made, but all those have allowed me to fine tune this new server to be locked down and monitored fully to prevent many of the issues that cause players to become upset – griefing, slaying, stealing… By utilising plugins on the server every action is monitored and recorded and many things are able to be reversed if they have happened maliciously.

Minecraft is a game that can be played in so many different ways, and I have discovered that the way I like to play the game is to create new things – games, adventures, settlements etc. – for others to enjoy. It is because of this that I am thrilled to be running this club as it gives me the alibility to create and share fun things with others, hopefully, for them to enjoy.

I have an enhanced DBS and follow child safeguarding rules.
